The Challenge
What they faced
Morrison & Partners LLP, a top-50 UK law firm with over 300 solicitors, was struggling under the weight of manual document review. Each due diligence exercise required junior associates to spend days reading through hundreds of contracts, extracting key clauses, and flagging potential risks. The process was not only slow but error-prone — critical clauses were occasionally missed under time pressure. With client expectations rising and margins tightening, the firm needed a way to accelerate review without compromising the quality their reputation was built on.
Our Solution
How we solved it
We designed and deployed a cloud-based AI document processing pipeline using GPT-4o and custom fine-tuned classification models. The system ingests contracts in any common format, extracts key clauses (termination, liability, indemnity, change of control), assigns risk scores, and generates structured summaries. A human-in-the-loop review interface allows solicitors to approve, amend, or escalate the AI's findings. The entire pipeline runs on Azure with full audit logging to satisfy regulatory requirements.
Approach
Step by step
Document audit and taxonomy design
We analysed 2,000+ historical contracts across six practice areas to build a comprehensive clause taxonomy and risk framework.
Pipeline architecture
Designed a serverless Azure pipeline using Azure AI Document Intelligence for OCR, GPT-4o for clause extraction, and a custom classifier for risk scoring.
Model fine-tuning and validation
Fine-tuned classification models on the firm's own annotated contracts, achieving 96% accuracy on clause identification before going live.
Review interface development
Built a web-based review interface integrated with the firm's existing document management system, allowing solicitors to verify and approve AI outputs.
Pilot and iteration
Ran a four-week pilot with the corporate practice group, incorporating feedback to refine extraction accuracy and summary formatting.
Firm-wide rollout and training
Deployed across all practice areas with tailored training sessions and a dedicated support channel for the first month.
“The speed and accuracy have transformed how we approach due diligence. What used to take a team of associates three days now takes an afternoon with a single reviewer. Grove understood our world — they didn't just build technology, they built something solicitors actually trust.”

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
All data is processed within a dedicated Azure tenancy with encryption at rest and in transit. No document content is used for model training, and full audit logs are maintained for regulatory compliance.
Yes. The pipeline supports multi-language extraction and can process contracts in over 30 languages, though accuracy is highest for English, French, German, and Spanish documents.
The system assigns a confidence score to every extraction. Any clause flagged below the firm's defined threshold is automatically escalated to a human reviewer, ensuring nothing slips through.
